Member Comments:

We just bought an older house in Austin and the inspector recommended adding insulation in the attic. The gentleman from Payless gave me an estimate and was very helpful in suggesting other ways to make the house more energy efficient. He was very helpful in explaining the City of Austin's rebate program. The crew came out on time and completed the work. We were very pleased with the service provided and will not hesitate to call them again if we need them.

Description Of Work: They sprayed insulation into my attic and installed an attic stairs tent.

Comments: The estimator got here when she said she'd be here. She measured the house from the outside then from the attic. There was no haggling on the estimate, which was a surprise, but it was a reasonable estimate. I called her back after she emailed me the estimate and scheduled it to happen. The installers showed up on time and put plastic down on the carpets. They were very friendly. The job took 3 hours. They showed me the work when done. WOW! They did a thorough job! They showed me how to operate the attic stair tent and it is HOT in the attic. That is the idea. Keep the heat in the attic! I did a LOT of research on what materials were the best to use for insulation, and hands-down, the cellulose stuff they used has the highest R rating (R38?) and as it settles, it insulates even better! They ensured that the A/C units' pans were cleared and the pilot light on the water heater was clear and still on. They cleaned up the upstairs like they were never here. It is already cooler in the house upstairs! The installers had a lot of great things to say about the materials they used. They are confident that the house will be cooler starting today! Overall, a great experience! I recommend Payless!

We hired them to blow in 10.5" of insulation in the attic of our 4,200 sq ft home and we also had some bats installed in another portion of the attic. The crew that blew in the insulation was here most of the day, were very professional and we loved the fact that they cleaned up very well before they left. Description Of Work: Installed air baffles to all soffit cavities Sealed five attic duct chases (cavities that went from attic through second floor to first floor) Installed attic tent Blew fiberglass insulation around soffit cavities and any other areas where insulation was not present and topped off insulation in other attic areas.

Comments: Home is about 10 years old and original builder cut corners on insulation. Had noticed problems with hotspots in 2nd floor and air infiltration from attic to 2nd floor. After some personal inspection determined that: #1 There were open duct chases from attic through 2nd floor to 1st floor, allowing hot attic air to get in behind drywall in interior of 2nd floor. Unfiltered attic air was being sucked through these into the 2nd floor. #2 Attic insulation did not go all the way to the sill on the soffit ends. There were baffles every 5 or 6 bays and the insulation did not even go up to them, leaving about 18" of uninsulated ceiling. #3 Some areas under attic decking had no insulation and other areas had settled. Called Payless Insulation. The estimator Ken came out promptly and evaluated the space. He was professional, attentive, detailed, and honest. He stated clearly that most of my insulation was up to minimum code except the areas where it was clearly missing and that I could expect a small return on the investment but nothing dramatic. I appreciated that. He was also very knowledgeable and took the time to discuss the pros and cons of adding more blown fiberglass versus moving it and adding cellulose or other options. The estimate was $859.20. Keep in mind that they were doing about a half dozen small jobs, so each job ranged between $100-300. After approving the proposal, they called me promptly to schedule the work the next week, which was very convenient for my schedule. The two-man team arrived PROMPTLY at 8AM and assessed the situation. They were efficient, professional, and pleasant to work with. They asked questions about exactly what I wanted and protected surfaces from damage. These guys took the time to set the job up right. They first installed all the baffles and covered the chases. There was one they missed initially because I had covered it up previously, but as soon as I pointed it out they jumped on it. They even assisted me in prepping an area so the insulation would install better, which I really should have done before they arrived. They asked me to look at the work before they covered it, which also showed great customer and quality focus. Then they installed the attic tent. I was surprised by this but afterward realized it proved they were thinking smart and considering the client. This allowed them to ZIP UP around the hose to minimize fiber infiltration into the 2nd floor when they were blowing the fiberglass! They ran the hose through a 2nd floor window and I swear there was not a speck of dust after they were done. Once completed, they asked me to come upstairs and inspect the work. I was as blown away by the thoroughness. Not only did they get a good coverage at the soffits, and all the nooks and crannies under the decking, but they filled any low spots and topped off everywhere it needed it. Frankly, they exceeded my expectations. Cleanup was fast and thorough as well. After reviewing the work and signing off completion, I indicated I wanted to pay by credit card, which I did by calling it in. The amount quoted was the exact amount charged. Customer service there was friendly and efficient as well. Kudos to a fantastic company. Reasonable price for the work done, friendly customer service, professional proposing, and an awesome installation team. These guys represent the best experience I have ever had with a contractor doing work on my home. If you need insulation, don't use anybody but Payless Insulation.
